
The Durant High School Band is known throughout the state as one of the best bands in Oklahoma. They strive for excellence every year. For four years in a row the band has received the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award. They have also accomplished a goal that has never been accomplished in the history of high school bands. The Pride of Durant has received straight one's at the OSSAA West Regional Marching Competition every year for the past 15 years. No other high school band has been awarded with this wonderful recognition. They must go through many long practices to get the marching and concert shows perfected. "Great bands don't have great practices, great practices make great bands."
The marching band is made up of all band members. They compete in various competitions and festivals, perform at football games, and periodically get invited to national band events.
The Durant High School color guard program performs along with the Pride of Durant marching band. They use a combination of dance, marching, flags, costume, and other props to add flare and rhythm to the marching band's performance.
The Durant High School dance team, also known as the Sparklers performs in a variety of ways, including marching with the band and color guard, in dance competetion, at pep rallies and basketball games, and at parades and other community events.
The jazz band is made up of any DHS band members who want to experience playing jazz music. They compete in the State Jazz competition each April.
The basketball band is made up of volunteer DHS band members who want to perform during home basketball games.

The Durant Middle School band program prepares students for competitive band at the high school level and a lifetime of developing their musical abilities.
The Durant Intermediate School Band is comprised of first year band students. Students select their first instrument and begin building their foundation for band participation at the Middle and High Schools. Students participate in concerts and activities throughout the school year.
The first of the school year begins their training for the OSSAA West Regional Marching Competition. They start about 2 weeks before school starts to teach the incoming freshmen how to march. After school has started, the band switches to 7:30 morning practices and go early until after the state competition. They get a few short weeks until they're right back in the seat to get ready for the upcoming concerts and the State Concert and Sight Reading competition in the spring.
Middle and Intermediate Band programs hold various concerts throughout the year and participate in community activities.
The Durant ISD band program competes in Class 5A of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association. OSSAA is the governing body that oversees rules, regulations, and information regarding school competitive activities in the state of Oklahoma.
