The Durant School District requests help in locating and identifying children with disabilities from ages birth to 21 who may be in need of special services.
A phone call to Duane Merideth, assistant superintendent, or Dale Welsh, special education director, at 924-1276 will receive immediate response in providing appropriate education services, free of charge, for qualifying students with disabilities who live in the Durant School District.
Pre-enrollment for DISD began in April and will continue until May 6th. Some new procedures have been developed to make the process easier for parents. All students that have not pre-enrolled should do so as soon as possible. Regular enrollment will run from July 28th throught August 6th at each site.
All Transfer students must complete the proper paperwork prior to enrollment. Transfer applications may be picked up from Myra Watson at the Administration Building on April 2nd, and may be signed by the sending school on April 2nd or thereafter. After the form is signed by the sending school, it must be returned to Myra Watson in order to receive the card necessary for enrollment. The Administration office is located at 1323 Waco Street.
Students who are entering the district for the first time will need to bring current shot records and a birth certificate.
Questions about enrollment should be directed to the office of the school site your student will be attending.

On April 1st, Durant citizens voted to approve funding for new school facilities. This is an historic event for Durant Public Schools and we sincerely express our appreciation to the community.
Statement from Dr. Terry James, Superintendent of Schools:
On April 1, the citizens of Durant once again confirmed what we know about this community, that there is a desire to pull together and do the right thing for our young people. Local government, businesses, parents, caring individuals, and schools pulled together to bring a twenty-year dream to fruition, a new high school.
Upon approval of the question by our community, we immediately contacted our architects and have scheduled meetings to continue specific design on the new high school. We anticipate the design and bid phase to take approximately six months. Ground breaking and construction should commence approximately seven to eight months from the April 1 approval. We anticipate two to two-and-one-half years of construction time, with the high school opening for the 2011-12 school year.
We are excited about the opportunity the citizens of Durant have given us. We pledge to be good stewards of the resources provided to us in order to literally build a better future for the young people of this community.
